When you are feeling yucky
As much as I have my moments of feeling inspired and on-top-of-the-world, I also have spells where I feel heavy, uncertain and blue.
It is in these times, I feel it is most important we show up for ourselves. It is a time to be extra gentle with ourselves—to lean into our Hearts and love ourselves to the other side.
Sadly, we have a human tendency to be our own harshest critic. We often kick ourselves when we are down in some twisted illusion that we can force ourselves past this low point.
But we have to remember, this is only a Season. It is not a sign of our failure or some demotion in our value. As humans, the ups and downs and all arounds are baked into the very human experience. It is supposed to be this way.
A Season is a time to focus on the few things you can do that will help you. Lower the bar, for now. You can get back to kicking butt later.
When I feel blue, I like to retreat a bit from the world. And then I reach for the baby steps that will bring me back. Walks outside. Journaling. Reading. Processing. Feeling. And sometimes I even eat entire pints of icecream and feel really sorry for myself. What’s most important is that I give myself grace.
What I no longer do, is judge myself for it. Life does what it does. And our single job during this time is to fortify ourselves during the tougher times so we can come back with more strength when the pendulum swings once again.
The idea that berating and pushing ourselves for having very human moments of BLEH is what I consider “wrong thinking” and not of the Heart. It’s outdated, archaic and faulty.
The stronger way is to lean into your Heart’s wisdom. When you are down, what can give you give yourself to nurture yourself back to strength? This is the new way, not to mention the *only* way to prosper as you were so intended.
